Ibiza, known for its legendary nightlife and world-famous clubs, also offers breathtaking natural beauty and serene landscapes that are simply mesmerizing. Whether you’re in search of sandy beaches, stunning cliffside views, or secluded coves, the Balearic island has it all. From the rolling hills of the interior to the crystal-clear waters of the coast, here are some of the most beautiful spots to visit whilst in Ibiza.
ES VEDRÁ
This towering, triangular rock formation off the coast of Ibiza is one of the island’s most iconic landmarks. The silhouette of Es Vedrà against the sky is a sight to behold, and its isolated location makes it a popular destination for those seeking a little peace and quiet. Whether viewed from the coast of the island or approached by boat, the rock’s natural beauty is undeniable.
THE GATES OF HEAVEN LOOKOUT
The Gates of Heaven (Las Puertas del Cielo in Spanish) became famous among the hippies of the 60s and 70s, who chose this spot to gather and watch the sun go down. However, this site has many names, and locals also refer to it as Sa Penya Esbarrada or Ses Balandres.
The Gates of Heaven is located near Santa Inés, and it is a place of great natural beauty, surrounded by local pines, high cliffs and the endless blue sea. Its vastness, the clear view of the sun hiding behind the blue horizon and the mysterious Ses Margalides islets will make you want to come back to this special place year after year.
SES SALINES NATIONAL PARK
Declared a Natural Park in 2001, Ses Salines park constitutes one of the must-see locations in Ibiza. The entrance is located near Sant Jordi, where the island’s ancient salt ponds can be found. These alone are worth a visit, however, the park extends from the south of Ibiza to the north of Formentera, also occupying the waters that separate them, which are home to a large part of the seagrass meadows that surround both islands. These meadows are the reason why the island has such rich marine biodiversity, as well as the purity of its waters. If you’d like to witness the unparalleled natural beauty of the park, head to any of the beaches located within its bounds, such as Es Codolar, Ses Salines or Es Cavallet.
CAN SOLEIL GATES
Nestled between the picturesque beaches of Cala Codolar and Cala Llentia, lies a hidden gem of Ibiza’s coastline – the enigmatic and magnetic “Puertas de Can Soleil”. This curious monument consists of two facing doors, filled with Arab motifs, which symbolize a small, square room measuring three by three meters in the middle of the field. The peculiarity of the space is that it has no walls, challenging visitors to reimagine how we perceive a room, and what makes it even more special is its position, which offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and Es Vedrá. Whether you’re a history buff, a nature lover, or an avid Instagramer, this site is the perfect destination for a memorable and unique experience in Ibiza.
